Image Upscaler

FAQ

Check FAQs for Nero AI Image Upscaler. If your issue isn’t listed, contact us at feedback@nero.com

Q: What are the system requirements?

A: See the full System Requirements for GPU, storage, and hardware recommendations.

Windows: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) with at least 8 GB RAM.
macOS: macOS 14.1 Sonoma or later with at least 16 GB of memory.

Q: What GPUs are supported for local AI processing?

A: The app supports NVIDIA GPUs with CUDA compute capability 5.2 or higher, which includes GeForce GTX 960 or newer (e.g., GTX 10xx, RTX 20xx/30xx/40xx series).

For best performance, we recommend using an RTX series GPU with at least 4GB of VRAM.

💡 Note: AMD and NPUs are under developing.

Q: How do I upscale an image?

A: Drag and drop an image into the app or select Add Image. Choose an upscale size such as 2×, 4×, or 8×, select an AI model, then start processing.

Q: Can I choose the output resolution manually?

A: Yes. Nero AI Image Upscaler lets you customize the output resolution in pixels or set a specific print size using inches (in), centimeters (cm), or millimeters (mm).

For printing, you can also choose a target DPI (such as 150 or 300 DPI). The app automatically calculates the required pixel dimensions based on your selected print size and DPI.

Q: What image formats are supported?

A: We support JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP and TIFF (as output only).

Q: What's the maximum input resolution?

A: You can load images up to 1024 megapixels into the app. However, please note:

  • For images over 64 megapixels, only Face Recovery and Skin Retouch features are available.

  • Upscale models will not run on inputs exceeding 64MP. You’ll need to resize the image or crop it if you want to use full AI upscaling.

Q: What’s the maximum output resolution?

A: The Image Upscaler Desktop App supports up to 1024 megapixels for output resolution. You can adjust the scale (e.g., 2×, 4×) or set a custom resolution manually, but keep in mind that larger outputs may require more processing time and memory.

Q: What AI models are available?

A: Nero AI Image Upscaler offers different AI models for various image enhancement needs:

  • Standard: General-purpose image upscaling.

  • Photo: Natural-looking enhancement for photos.

  • Anime: Optimized for anime, illustrations, and digital artwork.

  • Iris: Enhances fine details such as hair, fur, and textures.

  • Reconstruct: Regenerates realistic textures and details in low-resolution or heavily compressed images, including old photos, portraits, and product images.

  • Face Recovery: Reconstructs facial details in low-resolution images.

  • Sharpen: Improves clarity in soft images with weak edge definition.

  • Unblur: Reduces motion blur, camera shake, and focus blur.

Model availability may vary by plan.

Q: Can I improve faces in low-quality images?

A: Yes! Use the “Face Recovery” option to restore clarity and detail in portraits.

Q: How can I set DPI for printing?

A: Nero AI Image Upscaler allows you to set both the physical print dimensions and target DPI directly in the app.

Select your desired width and height in inches (in), centimeters (cm), or millimeters (mm), then choose a DPI value. The app automatically calculates the corresponding output resolution in pixels.

For example, a 10 × 8-inch print at 300 DPI requires an output resolution of 3000 × 2400 pixels.

AI upscaling can generate additional pixels to support larger prints, but actual print quality also depends on the original image and the selected AI model.

Q: Does the app support batch processing?

A: Yes. You can input up to 100 images and start the processing with 1-click.

Q: Is the app free to use?

A: Yes! The Free version lets you use local processing with a watermark.

💎 Local Face Recovery and Skin Retouch are exclusive to 2026 (or later) Pro users. Pro users from 2024 or 2025 can continue using the cloud processing for these features.

Q: How are credits used?

A: Each image processed via Cloud GPU uses 1–2 credits, depending on model and resolution. Local process does not consume credits.

Q: What happens when I run out of credits?

A: You can continue to use local processing features or purchase additional credits in the app.

Q: Why output looks weird or distorted?

A: Try switching to another model or enabling/disabling Face recovery. Different images work best with different models.

Q: The app is slow or crashes. What should I do?

A: Make sure your system meets the hardware requirements. Try reducing the input or output resolution, cropping the image, or switching to a different AI model.

For extremely large images or WebP files, the app includes additional safety checks and may display warnings about potential memory or processing limitations.

If the problem persists, contact feedback@nero.com for further assistance.

Q: What should I do if there’s a GPU error?

A: If you see an error indicating the GPU is unavailable or processing failed, try the following steps:

  1. Close and restart the app to release any locked GPU memory.

  2. Check if other programs are using the GPU, such as games, video editors, or other AI tools. Close them and try again.

  3. If the issue persists, you can temporarily switch to CPU mode or Cloud Process as a workaround.

  4. Make sure your NVIDIA GPU drivers are up to date.

💡 If the problem continues, please contact our support team and include your log files for further assistance.
