FAQ

Check FAQs for Nero AI Image Upscaler. If your issue isn’t listed, contact us at feedback@nero.com

Q: What are the system requirements?

A: The app supports Windows 10/11 and macOS 11.0 or later, with at least 8GB RAM. And a dedicated GPU with NVIDIA GTX960 or newer series are recommended for faster processing.

Q: What GPUs are supported for local AI processing?

A: The app supports NVIDIA GPUs with CUDA compute capability 5.2 or higher, which includes GeForce GTX 960 or newer (e.g., GTX 10xx, RTX 20xx/30xx/40xx series).

For best performance, we recommend using an RTX series GPU with at least 4GB of VRAM.

💡 Note: AMD and NPUs are under developing.

Q: How do I upscale an image?

A: Drag and drop an image into the app or use the "Add Image" button. Choose your desired upscale size (e.g., 2×, 4×) and model, then click "Process."

Q: Can I choose the output resolution manually?

A: Yes. In Custom Mode, you can specify exact width/height in pixels.

💡 Note: The cm/in with DPI settings are coming soon.

Q: What's the maximum input resolution?

A: You can load images up to 256 megapixels into the app. However, please note:

  • For images over 64 megapixels, only Face Recovery and Skin Retouch features are available.

  • Upscale models will not run on inputs exceeding 64MP. You’ll need to resize the image or crop it if you want to use full AI upscaling.

💡 Note: Coming soon with 2026 release. The max input image is 16.78 MP at this moment.

Q: What’s the maximum output resolution?

A: The Image Upscaler Desktop App supports up to 256 megapixels for output resolution. You can adjust the scale (e.g., 2×, 4×) or set a custom resolution manually, but keep in mind that larger outputs may require more processing time and memory.

Q: Can I improve faces in low-quality images?

A: Yes! Use the “Face Recovery” option to restore clarity and detail in portraits.

A: Yes! Use the “Face Recovery” option to restore clarity and detail in portraits.

Q: How is the DPI improved during upscaling?

A: While DPI (dots per inch) is a metadata value and not directly enhanced by AI, upscaling increases the pixel dimensions of your image, which allows for higher DPI when printing without loss of quality. For example, a 1000×1000px image upscaled to 4000×4000px can be printed at 300 DPI at a larger size.

💡 You can manually set or adjust DPI in the printing settings.

Q: What should I do if there’s a GPU error?

A: If you see an error indicating the GPU is unavailable or processing failed, try the following steps:

  1. Close and restart the app to release any locked GPU memory.

  2. Check if other programs are using the GPU, such as games, video editors, or other AI tools. Close them and try again.

  3. If the issue persists, you can temporarily switch to CPU mode or Cloud Process as a workaround.

  4. Make sure your NVIDIA GPU drivers are up to date.

💡 If the problem continues, please contact our support team and include your log files for further assistance.
